Liver & Kidney cleanse

First, let me start by saying this is a protocol I have been guided to follow. It is my own, I am not a doctor (thankfully) I am studying herbs and Ayurvedic medicine. This is not medical advice, please do your own research before deciding if this protocol is for you or not - some studies are linked in the content below. I have completed this protocol myself previously and I am currently doing it as I type.


When doing any kind of detox or cleanse, it is important to keep hydrated. 2 - 3 litres a day depending on your size. Try opting for distilled water as this also helps with flushing out any toxins and heavy metals. Ensure your diet is full of fresh fruit and vegetables to keep your body light and energised. Fruits are full of antioxidants so will also aid in the removal of toxins.


Apple cider vinegar with 'the mother' is something I add daily to my routine but is an essential addition during a cleanse or detox, especially when using potent essential oils, this is to restore beneficial flora. It also aids your body during the cleanse by flushing out toxins. ACV also helps your body to become alkaline - purifying your blood. The health benefits of ACV are endless, for this reason, I mix two tbsp of ACV with water and take it around lunchtime.


This protocol includes essential oils. Ensure the oils you choose to use, are therapeutic-grade pure essential oils. Thus ensuring the therapeutic benefits and safe to ingest! I will share links to therapeutic-grade oils below (I am an affiliate for the oils) You can take these oils with a spoonful of honey or make your own capsules. I prefer to make the capsules as the oils are incredibly strong in taste (basically taste rank!)


As mentioned before this is a protocol I have made myself after spending hours of researching, reading and studying. Some of the studies I will share with oils below. Some of the information I share is from a herbalist course I am currently studying. The detox is 5- 7 days long, depending on your needs! If this is a re-fresh then 5 days is sufficient. If this is totally new to you, then 7 days will bring you the best benefits!


Morning capsule includes:

2 drops of Cilantro, 1 drop of Fennel, 3 drops of Oregano, 2 drops of Thyme and 2 drops of Clove.

Cilantro essential oil is non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitising. Cilantro essential oil has many health benefits and healing properties including:


  • Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties - Powerful anti-biotic for fighting against UTIs and food poisoning.
  • Helps to balance blood sugar levels.
  • Helps settle nausea, and prevents wind and bloating. Relieves indigestion and heartburn.
  • Eases stomach cramps
  • Supports cardiovascular disease thanks to its polyphenolic content and natural cardio-protective nutrients responsible for preventing oxidative damage.
  • Fights inflammation
  • May improve sleep
  • Alleviates allergy symptoms
  • Antioxidant properties protect the body against damage caused by free radicals.


The main healing properties I wanted to share with you are its ability to support healthy liver function helping to cleanse and detoxify the body, and support in heavy metal detoxification.


Cilantro essential oil has been shown to bind toxic metals together- loosening them from tissue and facilitating their elimination from the body.


As well as supporting the liver function, studies show that Cilantro possesses hepatoprotective activity - which helps to prevent and cure liver damage.

Fennel essential oil health benefits

Fennel essential oil is used in many cultures for its medicinal properties. In ancient Chinese medicine, it was used to help with a variety of ailments from relieving congestion to increasing the flow of breast milk. Although not recommended for use during pregnancy. It is also not recommended for people prone to seizures or those who have epilepsy. It should be diluted with a carrier oil when applied topically and is not intended for long-term internal use.


Fennel also has many healing properties including:


  • Relief for digestive problems
  • Alleviates cramps and spasms
  • Eases respiratory conditions
  • Promotes the flow of breast milk
  • Aids in relief for menstrual issues and PMS
  • Relief for nausea and colic
  • Prevention of bone loss in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis
  • Helps maintain emotional balance and healthy hormone levels
  • Prevents water retention
  • Diuretic


The main healing properties I am wanting to share with you today are its anti-cancer potentials against breast cancer cell line and liver cancer cell line. This is due to its strong free radical-scavenging activity which also helps promote detoxification in the body as well as the liver. You can find a study here.

Oregano essential oil is an incredibly powerful, potent oil. For this reason, it should not be used for more than 10 consecutive days - after which a one-week break is required. It is also to be avoided during pregnancy and diluted when applied topically.


Oregano is nature's antibiotic - personally used on family members topically and internally with amazing results and zero side effects. Other health benefits of oregano include:


  • Helps to remove warts
  • Cleanses your home from mould
  • Can be used as an all-purpose cleaner
  • Treats and fights viral infections

The main reason I add Oregano oil to my detox is for its anti-parasitic properties. Taken internally it can combat parasitic infections.

Thyme essential  oil benefits

It is reported Thyme essential oil has been used for thousands of years, dating back to the Black Death in the late 1340s for relief and protection. 


Thyme essential oil is an emmenagogue - stimulating blood flow to the pelvis area, therefore should be avoided during pregnancy. It should also be avoided in high doses in people with high blood pressure and epilepsy.

Clove essential oil health benefits

Clove essential oil is another magical bottle of healing loveliness. I use clove oil daily in my homemade toothpaste for fresh breath and healthy gums. Other benefits include:


  • Supports healthy blood circulation

  • Helps fight acne
  • Lessens symptoms of osteoporosis
  • Contains anti-fungal properties
  • Fights candida

The reason for adding clove to this protocol is for its ability to naturally fight parasites and boost the immune system. Clove should not be used for longer than two weeks internally and should be diluted when applied topically.

Apple cider vinegar

With lunch, I add the apple cider vinegar with 'the mother' to help balance beneficial flora. the other option would be to take a good flora dupplement as some oils such as oregano and clove are potent and can interupt the 'good' bacteria as well as the 'bad'


Ensure all processed foods and drinks are avoided, including caffeine. Of course, during all detoxes, you may experience some symptoms. These vary depending on how much your body has to cleanse. Headaches, fatigue, aches and flu-like symptoms can be experienced from day 2. If you do experience these ensure you keep your water intake high and fruit consumption to aid the body in ridding these toxins.


The evening capsule promotes cleansing and relaxation promoting a good night's sleep. This capsule includes:

Geranium essential oil benefits

Geranium essential oil is a potent but wonderful scent, great for raising vibes and bringing balance to your heart's energy centre (heart chakra). It is reported to have been used during ancient Egyptian times to keep skin healthy and prevent ageing. However, due to its influences on hormonal secretion is it to be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy and only used topically and diluted thereafter.


Benefits of geranium include:


  • Balancing and regulating hormones
  • promotes healthy muscle toning, preventing muscle and skin from sagging
  • Reduces the appearance of eczema and psoriasis
  • Induces blood clotting promoting healing of wounds
  • May prevent Alzheimer's and dementia by working with the natural chemistry of the brain
  • Contains ani- yeast properties
  • Minimizes inflammation
  • Assists in relieving stress

Two reasons I add geranium to this detox protocol. One is for its ability to suppress candida cell growth and also for its aid in cleansing the kidneys due to its natural diuretic properties which helps to eliminate toxins from the body.

Grapefruit essential oil is another powerful oil for detoxification. It also has many weight loss benefits. including:


  • Curbing food cravings for sugary snacks
  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite

  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Boosts energy and lessens fatigue

On top of all these health benefits, grapefruit is also an excellent diuretic and lymphatic stimulant making it effective for shedding excess water and helping to eliminate toxins.

Juniper berries were used as food and medicine by the Native Americans, known for their antiseptic aura they were used for prevention and protection. Our ancestors knew then, what science tells us now!

Lavender was added to the evening capsule due to its sleep-promoting properties but also due to its antioxidant effects - it's ability to protect the liver and kidneys from degeneration.

Frankincense essential oil health benefits

Frankincense is known as the king of oils it's powerful, effective and incredibly therapeutic. It is known to have blood thinning effects so should not be used on people with problems related to blood clotting.
